INTRODUCTION:
The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled, “Supreme Injustice in Alexander Case Ruling and Evolving Technology and Its Impact on the African-American Community”, will be live with Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and will feature special guests Dr. Barbara Reynolds and Calvin Lawrence. Most of this show will be devoted to an in-depth interview of Dr. Barbara Reynolds, author of “The Rise and Fall of the Techno-Messiah: Technology and the End Times”, and Calvin Lawrence, author of “Hidden in White Sight: How AI Empowers and Deepens Systemic Racism”.
This show will begin by covering the devastating Alexander v SC NAACP case issued on May 23rd, 2024. Read more about the case here: https://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/alexander-v-south-carolina-state-conference-of-the-naacp/. Then, the show will feature the interviews of Dr. Barbara Reynolds and Calvin Lawrence. Finally, the last segment of the show will discuss the “We Demand 100% Justice for Ahmaud Arbery” June 5th Activation in opposition to the motion by the convicted murderers for a new trial; and, how everyone can help plan and participate in the upcoming July 17th John Lewis Anniversary Day of Action and Candlelight Vigils.
Barbara Arnwine became aware of Dr. Reynolds’ book “The Rise and Fall of the Techno-Messiah” when she presented at the Black Statewomen’s Luncheon on March 28th. Intrigued by Dr. Reynold’s presentation, Barbara then bought the book, which is an insightful theological perspective on the consequences of scientists becoming “new age” prophets and their laboratories’ secular altars. It carries a warning that the new emerging technologies without God can bring disaster. In assessing the social, economic impact of Artificial Intelligence, robotics and genetics, the work also examines the role of encoded biases in technology with the hope that ethical deficiencies can be overcome. You can purchase the book for yourself or see more information at www.DrBarbaraReynolds.com.
Calvin Lawrence’s book “Hidden in White Sight: How AI Empowers and Deepens Systemic Racism” synopsis reads: “Artificial Intelligence was meant to be the great social equalizer that helps promote fairness by removing human bias from the equation, but is this true? Given that the policing and judicial systems can display human bias, this book explores how the technology they use can also reflect these prejudices. From healthcare services to social scoring in exams, to applying for and getting loans, AI outcomes often restrict those most in need of these services. Through personal stories from an esteemed Black Data Scientist and AI expert, this book attempts to demystify the algorithmic black box. AI pervades all aspects of modern society and affects everyone within it, yet its internal biases are rarely confronted. This book advises readers on what they can do to fight against it, including the introduction of a proposed AI Bill of Rights, whilst also providing specific recommendations for AI developers and technologists.” You can purchase the book for yourself or see more information at https://hiddeninwhitesight.com/.
