INTRODUCTION:

Hi Igniters For Change! The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled “From The Murder In Minnesota to the ICW Abuses Across America: Walk Out On Fascism”, will be live with Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and will feature special guests Attorney Nikema Levy Armstrong and Keya Chatterjee. The murder in Minnesota was not an isolated incident and neither are the horrific ICE abuses happening across America. Are we witnessing the attempted consolidation of a fascist regime? More importantly: What are we going to do to stop it? In this week’s show, we dive deep into the roots of this crisis and discuss why a concerted public response is urgently required in this moment. We are joined by two incredible voices on the front lines to break down the connection between state violence, the targeting of immigrants, and the moral necessity of a mass “walk out” on fascism.

Unbeknownst to most Americans, 32 people died in ICE custody in 2025. This year, two people have been shot dead by ICE agents. The murder of Keith Porter Jr., a 43‑year‑old Black father of two who was shot and killed by an off‑duty ICE agent on New Year’s Eve at his Northridge, Los Angeles apartment complex, has largely been ignored by the media.

On Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Lobby of the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis, community leaders and civil rights advocates held an Emergency Press Conference in response to the killing of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of 3 children, including a 6-year-old child, who was shot and killed by an ICE agent during a federal enforcement operation in south Minneapolis. Eyewitness accounts and publicly available video footage raise grave and urgent concerns about the circumstances surrounding Ms. Good’s killing and directly refute attempts by federal officials to justify the use of deadly force. Based on this evidence, advocates called on local law enforcement authorities to take immediate and independent action. DHS has said ICE officers fired after what it described as a vehicle “ramming” attempt. Local leaders strongly dispute that account. Officials say the case remains under investigation.

Speakers called for:

  • The immediate arrest and prosecution of the ICE agent responsible
  • Full transparency, including the release of all video and body-worn camera footage
  • Accountability from federal authorities
  • Justice and reparative support for Ms. Good’s surviving child and family

This press conference addressed the urgent need for accountability, transparency, and justice following a fatal act of state violence that has shaken the Minneapolis community. Watch the press conference here: https://youtu.be/Q0lf_v_Xgx4

Walz + MPD updates; Community + faith leader news conferences; Use-of-force / legal analysis; and, Protest coverage + public safety updates.

Renee Good’s murder has sparked a massive wave of protests throughout the nation with people demanding “ICE OUT!” and “Justice For Renee Good!”  Last year, FreeDC and a number of organizations announced a “Walk Out On Fascism” to be held on the first anniversary of the Trump Administration. From FreeDC’s Press Release: “January 20, 2026 will mark one year of this fascist regime as well as one year of Free DC’s organizing to protect our people and communities. One year in, our fight is more urgent than ever: ICE is kidnapping our neighbors, MPD is cooperating with federal agents, Congress has introduced bill after bill to overturn our local laws, and local elections on the horizon will require us to actively ensure their fairness and integrity.

“On January 20, 2026, we’re calling on everyone who is sick of this administration’s attacks on DC to leave work and rally with us for a Free DC. Team up with friends, coworkers, or neighbors in your Ward to take this action together. Together, meet us at Freedom Plaza to show our power and participate in a special activity together. The Call for the Walk Out is now a national call for people throughout the nation to join. The January 20 walkout has become a coordinated nationwide action organized by groups such as the 50501 Movement, Women’s March, the Free America/FreeDC coalition, TJC, and many others. The purpose of the event is to create a visible, collective demonstration against authoritarianism by having people stop what they are doing at exactly 2 PM local time and step outside to join others in peaceful public gatherings. Organizers describe it as an accessible action meant to show unity and scale, building on the momentum of earlier mass demonstrations. Participants are encouraged to walk out of workplaces, schools, or daily routines and join rallies, marches, or community events that reinforce the message of democratic resistance and civic solidarity.

Proposed Questions

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM Eastern Time (non-partisan)- GUESTS: Attorney Nikema Levy Armstrong and Keya Chatterjee

  • Welcome Attorney Armstrong and Keya to the show. Thank you both for being at the forefront of leadership in these very troubling times, and most importantly for helping the public to express their anger at the Constitutional violations and other awful actions of this Administration.
  • Attorney Armstrong, We are aware you have to leave us at 12:30 PM Eastern Time, so let’s start on this horrific murder of Renee Good. You are no newbie to this fight against abusive and deadly law enforcement as you have been a leader in the Movement for Black Lives in Minneapolis for many years. Please tell our audience why the murder of Renee Good demands our national attention?
  • Attorney Armstrong, You held a press conference on January 8th in response to the murder of Renee Good. What were your and the other speakers’ key demands that were made during that press conference?
  • Attorney Armstrong, Since the press conference, what are you hoping the people of the United States will continue to do to demand justice for Renee Good, Keith Porter, and all others subjected to the dangers of ICE?
  • Attorney Armstrong and Keya, What’s your advice to all the other cities confronting ICE?
  • Attorney Armstrong and Keya, What have been your reactions to the massive protests that have been held in the past several days?
  • Attorney Armstrong and Keya, There’s one major protest scheduled for January 20th, “The Walk Out On Fascism”. Why is it important that everyone in the United States participate?
  • Attorney Armstrong, What are your one-minute final thoughts to our listeners?
  • Attorney Armstrong, Thank you for all of your hard work. How do our listeners get in contact with you?

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM Eastern Time (non-partisan)- GUEST: Keya Chatterjee

  • FreeDC has been a national leader in opposing ICE and the National Guard’s Occupation. In your opinion, are we winning this battle of public opinion?
  • Tell our audience more about January 20th:
  • Why that date?
  • How do people participate?
  • If they’re in a different time zone, do they follow the same time as the 2:00 PM Eastern Time for the walk out or do they follow their time zone that coincides with 2:00 PM Eastern Time?
  • Are there slogans, hashtags, or certain colors that people are being asked to wear?
  • After people WALK OUT, what are they being encouraged to do?
  • How long have you been planning this WALK OUT and how has it changed into a national movement, especially following the murder of Renee Good?
  • Many people are concerned that Keith Porter, a 43‑year‑old Black father of two who was shot and killed by an off‑duty ICE agent on New Year’s Eve at his Northridge, Los Angeles apartment complex, has largely been ignored by the media. You encounter these racial concerns all the time. What do you want to say to the nation about Keith Porter and all the others who have been murdered, brutalized, and have had their stories buried?
  • Let’s discuss the misogyny (like her murderer calling her a “F’ing B”), the homophobia, and the “White traitor” narrative, and that all this took place as President Trump was demonizing Somali’s in the same area. What has been your reaction to all of this?
  • What are your one-minute final thoughts to our listeners?
  • Thank you for all of your hard work. How do our listeners get in contact with you and FreeDC?
  • Barbara and Daryl will begin to wrap up the show at 12:52 PM Eastern Time.
  • Daryl will talk about his latest “viral moment” video and his participation in a recent protest.

Barbara and Daryl will take a brief moment at the top of the hour to note important legal developments on voting rights, including:

  •  Lauding the decision of a federal judge in Washington state, U.S. District Judge John H. Chun, who blocked President Trump’s elections executive order after ruling that the president exceeded his constitutional authority by trying to impose new voter‑registration and mail‑ballot rules on the states. The judge found that only Congress and the states can set the “time, place, and manner” of federal elections, making the order’s citizenship‑proof and Election Day ballot‑receipt requirements unlawful.
  • Discussing Watson v. RNC asks whether federal election‑day statutes preempt state laws that allow mail ballots cast by Election Day to be received after Election Day, a question arising from Mississippi’s five‑day postmark rule. The Supreme Court has granted review, and the next major step is oral arguments, which have not yet been scheduled as of the latest SCOTUSblog docket update. he case is fully briefed through February 9, 2026, and the Court will set an argument date later in the 2026 term once it finalizes the OT 2025 calendar.
  • Announcing SCOTUS will be issuing decisions on Wednesday, January 14th and the Voting Rights Community is anxiously on the alert for the Louisiana v, Callias decision. Barbara and Daryl would like to thank Congressman Johnathan Jackson for having them on his radio show to discuss this. You can listen to this Congressman Jonathan Jackson Interview at https://jonathanjackson.house.gov/media/videos/interview-barbara-r-arnwine-esq-president-founder-transformative-justice-coalition

  • when you make those daily calls to the Congress at 202-224-3121 to Vote to Stop the Trump Takeover of D.C. and other cities and to tell the Senate to vote No on the SAVE Act
