INTRODUCTION:

Hi Igniters For Change! The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled “The Times, They Are a’Changing: The Legacy of Rev. Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr., the DNC 2024, and the Advent of Kamala Harris and Justice for Jelani Day”, will be live with Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and will feature special guests Carmen Bolden Day; Prof. Maureen Edobor, Esq.; Edward Ward; and, CK Hoffler, Esq.

Igniting Change will start the show with Attorney C.K. Hoffler, discussing the legacy of when Rev. Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr. ran for president of the United States 40 years ago. This past week, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition held their annual convention and held numerous tributes for its Founder:

Attorney Hoffler, Edward Ward, and Prof. Maureen Edobor will also quickly discuss within the  first 10 minutes of the show the new weekly segment called “Election 2024 and Race Media Report Card”. Over the years, Igniting Change has pointed out the many failures and misadventures of the U.S. media’s coverage of racial issues. This journalistic incompetence reaches a new high during political contests, especially during presidential elections. From misguided headlines which thoughtlessly give credence to racial attacks, to the lack of fact checking, and the treatment of racial slurs, tropes, and stereotypes as fair commentary, this period has reeked of abysmal journalism. We will discuss some of these matters and what is necessary to be done to make the overall media more competent.

From 12:10 PM – 12:25 PM Eastern Time, Igniting Change will interview Jelani Day’s mother, Carmen Bolden Day,  to discuss the anniversary of the passing of Jelani Day. Read more about Jelani Day’s passing in this 2021 article featuring an interview with Carmen Bolden Day: “Jelani Day’s Body Is Identified A Month After The Grad Student Went Missing”, https://www.npr.org/2021/09/24/1040391878/jelani-day-identified-missing-bloomington

Prof. Maureen Edobor, Esq. and Edward Ward are TJC Fellows and will participate in the discussion with Attorney C.K. Hoffler about Rev. Jackson’s legacy which paved the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to be in the historic positions she’s in now and discuss the upcoming Gen Z and Young Millennial Voting Rights Leadership Training.
