INTRODUCTION:

Hi Igniters For Change! This Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, is entitled “Will Your Ballot Count? Barriers to Voting in 2026.”  Radio Show Co-Hosts, and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders, Attorney Barbara Arnwine and Attorney Daryl Jones will feature special guests, Jim Saksa, a reporter for CQ and Democracy Docket as well as the Honorable Joshua Ang Price, the newly minted Executive Director of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA).

This show will focus on the newly implemented policy of the U.S. Postal Service that states that mail received by rural post offices may not be postmarked until a date later than the received date in the post office.   The new policy means that in states where a mail-in ballot must be postmarked before the election day, that the ballot will not be counted by local Boards of Elections.

This show will also discuss various barriers that voters will face in the 2026 midterm election.  Shifting polling places, exact name match, confusion created by Executive Orders stating that only in-person voting is permitted, demands by the Department of Justice for State Voter Data information, the potential impact that the National Guard, Immigration and Custom Enforcement and other law enforcement agencies could possibly have if placed at polling locations are all strategies and acts of intimidation used to shrink the electorate.  The show will talk about these hurdles implemented to make voting more difficult in 2026 and will conclude with a discussion on strategies to overcome these challenges.

Proposed Questions

  • Jim Saksa welcome to Igniting Change.  Please tell our listeners about your background?
  • You have written a powerful piece for Democracy Docket on Mail-In Ballots and the implementation of the USPS new policy of postmarking mail in rural areas (50 miles from a mail distribution processing center).  Would you please share with our audience what is occurring with USPS and rural postmarked mail?
  • What is the potential impact of the policy change?
  • This USPS indicated that this shift in postmark policy is due to budget restraints.  Is there any reason to believe that the policy will be implemented in non-rural areas?
  • Joshua, you represent the largest Filipino American organization in the United States.  What impact, if any, do you believe that this policy shift could have on the Filipino community?
  • What other “voter suppression” concerns that you have coming into the 2026 midterm election cycle?
  • In considering the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents across America, what impact do you believe this deployment could have at polling places?
  • There has been a practice implemented by the Department of Justice of requesting voter data information from States.  Many states have fought and are suing the federal government over this request.  Why do you think that the Department of Justice is demanding this information and what could they do with the information?
  • The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice has been reduced by 70%.  The Civil Rights Division is charged protecting vulnerable and marginalized voters.  With the reduction of attorneys and staff, what does this action signify regarding the DOJ interests in assuring fair and impartial voting access?
  • Joshua, what strategies is NaFFAA implementing to assist Filipino voters in the upcoming midterm election cycle?
  • Jim and Joshua, what are some strategies that voters can use to address the various intimidating scenarios that they may face?
  • Jim, what message do you hope that listeners will take away from your USPS story?
  • Jim, how do our listeners contact you to learn more information about you and how do they follow your informative stories?
  • Joshua, how do our listeners reach you and the NaFFAA?
