INTRODUCTION:

Hi Igniters For Change! The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled “2025 Year End Recap and the Stories The Media Missed or Got Wrong”, will be live with Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and will feature special guests Prof. Kimberlé Crenshaw, Esq. and Timothy Jacob Wise.

The year 2025 has been dominated by the misdeeds and abusive policies of the Trump Administration, the abdication of its independence by Congress, a hard right-wing turn by the US Supreme Court, the capitulation of law firms, academic institutions and other entities to these policies. In a series of Executive Orders, President Trump has sought to dismantle civil rights, voting rights and constitutional protections. Many people have been horrified by the Trump-ordered invasion of our cities by ICE and the National Guard, the rampant racial profiling by deportations. This was a year that saw a rapid rise in White Supremacist groups, anti-Blackness, an increase in Book Bannings, and the destruction of federal Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs. According to numerous sources like the November 2025 letter released by the Congressional Caucus on Black Women & Girls Letter,  Black women have lost over 300,000 positions, which includes 225,000 who are actively unemployed and 75,000 who simply left the labor force altogether. These numbers, though cited most recently, are from reporting earlier in the year and have most likely worsened, as the Westside Gazette published on December 24th, 2025 that in November, the unemployment rate of Black women was 7.1%. (Read more from the sources on Black Women’s job losses: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/hidden-crisis-2025-why-black-women-losing-jobs-power-real-amanda-n–ermbc/ ; https://pressley.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/DOL-Black-Women-Unemployment-Letter.pdf ; https://thewestsidegazette.com/november-jobs-report-shows-rising-unemployment-and-worsening-outlook-for-black-workers/ )

According to the most recent data by the Just Security Litigation Tracker, published December 19th, 2025, the total number of cases currently tracked that have been filed against the Trump Administration is 552. This tracker is specifically designed to monitor legal challenges to Trump administration executive actions, is updated continuously, and can be found here: https://www.justsecurity.org/107087/tracker-litigation-legal-challenges-trump-administration/.

Congress, for its part has embraced the Trump Administration’s oligarchical favoritism while destroying the social safety net and healthcare programs which have protected the vulnerable and the poor as epitomized by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

We have seen a massive outcry and mobilization by the public, resulting in millions taking to the streets in the Hands Off, John Lewis; Good Trouble Lives On; and No Kings demonstrations.

In prior Igniting Change End-Of-The-Year Shows, we have criticized the mass media for its cultural incompetence in failing to cover stories of importance. Yet, this year, the media’s malfeasance has been magnified by many TV networks’ and newspapers’ outright capitulation to the Trump Administration’s demands that they not cover stories adverse to its policies and positions. From the silencing of Late Night TV Show hosts to revoking press passes to outright public denigrations of reporters by the President himself to threats from the FCC Commissioner, this Administration has sought to control the mass media. As a result, our annual listing of stories that the media missed or got wrong has increased exponentially. In addition, the Trump Administration’s policy of “shock and awe” designed to “flood the zone” has resulted in more stories going unreported.

These, and others, are the stories that our special guests will elucidate during our show.

Proposed Questions

Barbara and Daryl will open the show by wishing everyone happy holidays and asking people to put “TJC Under Your Tree” by donating to the 2026 voting rights work of the Transformative Justice Coalition at tjcoalition.org.

  • Kim and Tim, In one word, how would you describe 2025?
  • Kim and Tim, What, to you, has been the major story of the year?
  • Daryl, Barbara, and guests will share their favorite books and encourage people to donate towards TJC’s giveaways of banned and affirming books and discuss the work of AAPF.
  • Kim, AAPF has recently released a report called “Anti-Blackness Is the Point: Racism, Misogyny and Donald Trump’s Assault on Equal Opportunity”. What are some of the major conclusions of this report?
  • How do people read the report?
  • Tim, you have made presentations to No Kings gatherings and other predominantly White activists. What have you found to be the most glaring gaps in their understanding about racial injustice in this nation?
  • What have been some of your key messages during these presentations?
  • Where can people access many of the great videos of your presentations?
  • Kim and Tim, What’s your one-word description for the United State Mass Media and its performance in 2025?
