September 26, 2017

Our show on Tuesday, September 26th 12:00-1:00 PM will spotlight National Voter Registration Day 2017 and the Millennial Votes Matter Convening held last week during the CBCF ALC.

Every election cycle, tens of thousands of voters are excluded from voting because they had not registered by their states deadlines. To prevent this problem of missed registration deadlines and to encourage greater civic engagement, the National Voter Registration Day Coalition, composed of thousands of partners sponsors an annual National Voter Registration day: this year on September 26th. Our show will highlight how voters can register to vote, check their voter registration deadlines, verify their registrations and outreach to others to encourage their registration.

Also, last week, the Transformative Justice Coalition convened the 2nd Millennials Votes Matter Convening which trained a new cadre of millennials about voter registration, community and campus outreach/organizing, voter suppression and communications. Many of these new millennial trainees will join last year’s cohort in promoting voter registration including programs on National Voter Registration Day. Throughout the training, there was much discussion about how the issues of today affect voting participation including healthcare, foreclosures, poverty, natural disasters, Black Lives Matter, municipal services, education policy and so much more. Our show will look at some of these policy issues, particularly those in the current news headlines.

Our guests will include T-Dubbo, National Director of Hands Up United and rap artist; Rasheed J. Atwater, founder of the Saginaw Improvement Association and community development specialist; and other millennial guests. See guest bios at www.BarbaraArnwine.com.

How can you learn more about National Voter Registration Day 2017? How can you register to vote on-line? How can you check your voter registration? When is the voter registration deadline in my state? What do people need to know about the connection between politics, policy and power? What is the role of millennials in promoting civic engagement? Can millennials be a decisive force in setting forth a new progressive policy agenda for the United States?
