LISALYNLisalyn R. Jacobs is the CEO of Just Solutions: Bringing in justice to counteract injustice, and the former V.P. of Government Relations for Legal Momentum (formerly NOW Legal Defense & Education Fund),

She has testified before congressional committees at both the state and federal levels. She has also fought for and secured needed protections for poor women and survivors of violence in a number of key federal laws including two reauthorizations of the Violence Against Women Act (2005 and 2013), the 2006 reauthorization of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, and the 2009 amendments to the Stimulus law.

At Legal Momentum, she worked closely with the Administration on a variety of issues including campus sexual assault and workplace and other economic protections for victims of violence, among others. At Legal Momentum’s instigation, President Obama signed a directive in 2012 requiring all federal agencies to implement workplace policies to address the needs of domestic violence survivor employees.

She began her legal career at the National Partnership for Women and Families under the auspices of Georgetown’s Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellowship. Following three years in private practice, she joined the Office of Policy Development of the U.S. Justice Department in 1995 and worked on a number of issues including implementation of the Violence Against Women Act, the welfare reform law, judicial nominations, and affirmative action. She also served as Chief of Staff of the Civil Rights Division, as well as Special Counsel to the Director of the Violence Against Women Office.

In May, 2000, she left DOJ and for nearly three years was a civil and human rights consultant on issues ranging from capital punishment to affirmative action and international human rights.
