RAINBOW PUSH / CITIZEN EDUCATION FUND 2017 POLICY RESOLUTIONS

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) fight in the spirit of love and non-violent active resistance for justice – which is what love looks like in public;

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) are progressive educational, social, economic and political organizations that fight for freedom and justice for all; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) are part of the struggle for dignity, equality and opportunity for all oppressed people worldwide; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) are in concert with the struggle for democracy consistent with affirming optimal access to voting for all eligible citizens; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) are part of the struggle for all humanitarian priorities including healthcare, food, shelter and safety for all human beings; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) are part of the struggle for economic justice by fighting to end world poverty through the means of a quality education, viable employment and sound environmental policies; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) are very concerned about the lack of infrastructure investment to modernize and keep our nation competitive in the global marketplace; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) are part of the struggle for environmental justice to save the planet; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) will remain tender hearted, but also be tough minded in fighting for changes that are just; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) will not abandon the pursuit of justice, fairness and equality because of temporary defeats or setbacks; and

WHEREAS the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) must never be opposed or become blind to an opening to negotiate a just peace: NOW, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) support an increase in democratic participation through the expansion of automatic voter registration and same-day on-site voter registration in all 50 states; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) urge the United States Congress to establsh: a commission on voter suppression; a right to vote amendment to the U.S. Constitution; and the abolition of the Electoral College; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) support universal and comprehensive health care through the expansion of coverage under the Affordable Care Act as we move toward an updated and modernized Medicare For All single-payer health care system; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) support sanctuary city authorization and a comprehensive pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and refugees fleeing violence, political unrest, environmental disaster and poverty and who are seeking an opportunity to make a positive contribution to our nation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) urge a U.S. White House Conference or Congressional Commission on the causes and cures of violence; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) support a public school model of education and a funding formula that ensures household income or zip code do not determine the quality of instruction received; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) urge an annual report card in the following business sectors or industries reflecting opportunity and accessibility for

women and people of color at all employment levels, in

supplier diversity, and in corporate governance:

Advertising, Advertising, Apparel, Automotive, Energy,

Hollywood, Silicon Valley, Wall Street, and more; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) urge an end to the exploitation of temporary workers and support a livable wage via full-time employment; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) support a U.S. Marshall Plan and are part of a coalition joining with the Society of Civil Engineers in calling for an investment of $3 trillion over the next 10 years in the U.S. infrastructure to help reconstruct urban, small town and rural America and to put Americans back to work; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) affirmatively support science and the Paris Accord and oppose those in denial of climate change; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) support honoring the mutual defense pact’s Article 5 in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) which says that all nations will defend any other of the 28-member nations if attacked; and in addition we support maintaining, advancing and restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba and Venezuela respectively;

That the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) and Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) Board is in full support of the aforementioned 2017 policy resolutions.
