October 31, 2017

Our show on Tuesday, October 31st, 12:00-1:00 PM, ET, will feature an interview with one of our nation’s foremost ministers, Rev. Dr. L. LaSimba M. Gray, Jr., of New Sardis Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Gray is renowned for his strong racial, gender and social justice advocacy. We will discuss his perspectives on racism, including the recent White supremacist march in Shelbyville, TN, sexism in the Black community, the age of Trump and his advice for those seeking to become pastors. This show will continue our series on The Role of the Black Church in these times.

During our show, we will discuss Dr. Gray’s distinguished career of speaking truth to power, preserving Black History and promoting a liberation theology. Besides his religious leadership, Dr. Gray is an author, historian, voting rights activist, environmentalist, healthcare advocate, internationalist and banking director. See Dr. Gray’s picture and bio at www.BarbaraArnwine.com.

Two weeks ago, radio host, Barbara Arnwine, served as the keynote speaker for the Women’s Day program at New Sardis Baptist Church. She was very impressed with Dr. Gray’s program of action directly challenging misogyny in our nation and the Black community. This past weekend White supremacists gathered in Shelbyville, TN, shouting slogans of hate and racial slurs. That evening, these White nationalists fought and injured an interracial couple. A second march scheduled to be held in Murfreesboro, TN was canceled by the organizers due to low turnout. Still they have vowed to return.

What is the role of the Black church in addressing the Pandora’s box of hate unleashed in the aftermath of President Trump’s election? How can the Black church address sexism in the Black community and nationwide?; Why has New Sardis Baptist Church adopted a pledge for the men members?; What is the role of Black history in the fight for liberation?; What are the major social justice challenges of our time?;?Why is voting rights and political participation a major part of Dr. Gray’s work? What words of wisdom does Rev. Gray want to share with new ministers? These and many more questions will be explored during our show.
