This Tuesday’s Igniting Change show will focus on one of the most critical issues confronting our nation: “Who Benefits From Increasing the Minimum Wage: Examining the Fight for 15 Movement.” The show will be guest hosted by independent scholar and script writer Justin Arnwine. He will be joined by expert guest, Brandon Johnson, Chicago Teacher Union Organizer and WVON Radio Host, and others to discuss who would actually benefit from increasing the minimum wage?

The Fight for 15 Movement has taken this nation by storm.  This movement is having major impact in improving the minimum wage through state and local legislative fights and through ballot initiatives.  Nationwide only two states, Georgia and Wyoming, have minimum wages of less than the federal standard of $7.25 with 5 states without any minimum wage, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee.  Today, 35 million Americans earn less than $10.55 an hour, a staggering 26% of the workforce with 3/4’s of these workers being age 20 years and older.  These low wages contribute to the severe decrease in the American middle-class and the difficulties of workers finding affordable housing.

Later in the show, Barbara Arnwine, Igniting Change Host and President of the Transformative Justice Coalition, will join to describe the press conference on the launch of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus which will have just ended and to give us her take on minimum wage increases and equal pay for women.

There’s a lot of misconception and misinformation in the country about the true impact raising the minimum wage will have on the nation. Tune in this week to hear the facts as we are examining the fight for 15 movement, and what you can do to make a difference.

Be sure to spread the word!
