January 30, 2018

Our show on Tuesday, January 30, 12:00-1:00 PM EST, will broadcast live from Atlanta, Georgia and will focus on the severe voting rights challenges in the State of Georgia! Our special featured guests will be Reverend Dr. Charles Steele, Jr. and one of nation’s foremost activists Sharon J. Hill of the Georgia Coalition For People’s Agenda. See their pictures and bios at www.BarbaraArnwine.com. The fight for voting rights in the state of Georgia has never been an easy one. Indeed civil rights groups and organizations have had to sue the state repeatedly. Under the leadership of Brian P. Kemp, Georgia Secretary of State, there has been a barrage of attacks on the rights of Georgia citizens to exercise their right to vote. Recent lawsuits have challenged the State of Georgia’s voter registration failures and voter purges.

Radio Show Host, Barbara Arnwine will be in Atlanta meeting with groups and organizers to help plan the March 27th Georgia and South Carolina Regional Hearing of the National Commission for Voter Justice (NCVJ) which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. Following the successful first hearing of the National Commission for Voter Justice, planning is now proceeding for the March 3rd Texas and Oklahoma Hearing to be held in Dallas, Texas and then the Atlanta Hearing. We will discuss how our listeners can become involved in the work of the National Commission for Voter Justice.

During the show we will spotlight the special voting rights problems in Georgia. We will explore several hard questions: Is Georgia Ground Zero for voter suppression?; What happened in 2017 when Georgia purged 700,000 voters from the rolls during a weekend?; Why is Georgia part of the highly inaccurate and racialized Interstate Crosscheck County? What gamesmanship does Georgia engage in to impede voter registration for African Americans?; Why does Georgia use DRE voting machines?; What kinds of racial discrimination lawsuits have been pursued against Georgia in last 10 years?; How can SCLC, People’s Agenda, NAACP, ACLU and other groups fight back and win this battle in Georgia?; What can the average person do to help fight voter suppression? These and other questions will be examined.
