August 8, 2017

Our show on Tuesday, August 8, 12:00-1:00 PM , will feature an exclusive interview with Juan Thomas, the new President of the National Bar Association (NBA), the largest organization of Black lawyers in the United States. Our interview will explore his leadership vision for a vigorous, technologically advanced and aggressively engaged NBA.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, NBA President Juan Thomas has an impressive bio of professional achievement, public service and leadership. He was elected at the age of 25 to the West Aurora School Board. He is listed on the National Black Lawyers: Top 100 as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers. President Thomas has a long and distinguished career of service to the National Bar Association including serving as Vice President, National Secretary, Chairman of the NBA Political Action Committee and many other posts!

In these times as the Trump Administration pursues an active agenda of challenging and dismantling civil rights protections, the imperative question is what role will our nation’s approximately 65,000 Black lawyers serve in stopping this onslaught.

On August 3, 2017, after being formally installed as the NBA’s 75th President, Juan Thomas gave a rousing speech outlining his vision of a NBA unrelenting in its commitment to civil rights, international civil rights, racial and social justice. President Thomas both articulated a broad justice and distributed a written agenda and timetable for implementing these goals during his tenure.

Our show will interview President Thomas about these goals and his plans for 2027-2018. In addition, we will cover a broad range of critical issues including: How can Black lawyers help reform the criminal justice system, advocate for better indigent defense, make Black Lives Matter and help in ending mass incarceration? How can Black lawyers promote economic empowerment for the African American? Can Black lawyers create a legal leadership formation for fighting voter suppression and promoting voting rights? What can be done to advocate for more judicial diversity and more diversity in law firms and corporations. These and many more issues will be examined during our show.
