August 22, 2017

Our show on Tuesday, August 22, 12:00-1:00 PM Eastern Time will explore the unique emotional and mental challenges of our current times and the steps that individuals can undertake to achieve the best mental health possible. Since the events of the Charlottesville Assault and President’s Trump’s moral failures and active hateful provocations in responding, many have found themselves overcome by anger, dispirited, unable to sleep, disquieted, depressed, fearful, numbed or otherwise thrown off kilter. Some have found empowerment in taking to the streets or joined other actions in protest of White supremacy while others are deeply cynical and skeptical of what can be accomplished. For too many Jewish and African Americans there is an unsettling familiarity, a sense of fatigue, to all of this based on daily life in America and a disconcerting alienation as Americans declare themselves shocked or dismayed.

Our special guest will be Mr. Leonard Ingram (Bhagwan Ra Africa) who has devoted his career to techniques for addressing anger management. Mr. Ingram is renowned for his successful work in transitioning juveniles from involvement in the criminal justice system. His work also involves working in Chicago communities with highest violence rates to reduce anger. Mr. Ingram completed his undergraduate degree and did post graduate study in philosophy and psychology at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. He has also conducted studies in advanced Eastern Philosophy in Punjab, India under the guidance of several masters. And he has trained in Adlerian Anger Therapy. Many have stared at TV sets watching self-styled Neo-Nazis, white supremacists and KKK parade, most in their 20’s, spewing racial hate, bearing deadly weapons and dressed in military gear. A constant question is why do they hate Jewish people, Blacks, Immigrants and all people of color with such deadly and genocidal intent? Others have been disappointed in the President’s embrace of these groups and their cover cause of protecting confederate monuments? How do you keep from screaming at the TV while watching the President’s collusive statements? Why is racial progress in the U.S. so slow and cyclical? Others are deeply angry with their fellow Americans for having elected this President and Congress to power. How do you cope with the current climate? What do we tell our children? Should children be limited in exposure to watching this hate on TV or other media? How do we maintain a healthy emotional balance in these times? What steps should everyone take to protect and promote the best mental health? These questions and more will be explored during our show.
