April 18, 2017

Our show on Tuesday, April 18th, 12:00-1:00 PM, EDT, will focus on the Special Georgia Congressional and City Elections being held that day. All eyes of the nation will be fixed on the race in the 6th Congressional District as this is the seat vacated by former Rep. Tom Price when he joined the Trump Administration as the new Secretary of Health and Human Services. This race will pit 3 Republican candidates against each other and Democrat Jon Ossoff. To avoid a run-off, a candidate must garner 50% of the vote. Although in the past this has been a reliably Republican district, in 2016, President Trump only won the district by 2% over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

In addition, there is a race in the 4th Congressional district and the hotly fought City Council race in Stonecrest featuring 19 year old Mary Pat Hector, Spelman, and National Youth Director, National Action Director.

Our special guest will be Sharon J. Hill, Community Advocate and Human Relations Strategist and top political organizer who works assiduously on the ground in the State of Georgia. Having walked the streets of this district encouraging people to turnout and vote, she will provide an intimate assessment of these races.

After the tight race in Kansas 4th Congressional District which, despite a victory by Republican Ron Estes, the Democrat candidate James Thompson ran an unexpected and dramatic challenge, many have speculated that there may be a new political sentiment emerging in the American electorate. What lessons will the nation learn from the Georgia special elections? Will there be a large turnout in Georgia for these contested races? Will the 6th District prove a harbinger of a new political direction? Will Georgia elect a young, African American, progressive woman to the Stonecrest City Council?

These stimulating questions will be explored during our program. You don’t want to miss this show!

Be sure to listen live on Tuesday, 12:00-1:00 PM EDT in the DC Metro Region at WOL 1450 AM and on the Internet at BarbaraArnwine.com. You can call in with questions and comments at 800-450-7876. A podcast of the show will be posted Tuesday night.
